Alan Ball, creator of Six Feet Under, returns to HBO with a new series based on the novel series Southern Vampire by Charlaine Harris. Been empty for more than a month, the role of Debbie Pelt on “True Blood” finally finds its depicter. The last major character to be added in the third season, Debbie will be portrayed by “The Middleman” alumna Brit Morgan. This casting strengthens the fact that creator Alan Ball prefers to hire little known actors to fill out the new roles.
Debbie is a baddie in the vampire drama. She is the ex-girlfriend of Alcide Herveaux, played by Joe Manganiello, but she is not ready to see the werewolf with another woman. Problem is, Alcide gets closer to Sookie when they look for abducted Bill, thus friction between Debbie and Sookie is expected. In the novel, Debbie is a Were-lynx who is able to shape shift like Sam.
Alcide will only appear in the third episode of season 3, meaning Debbie may show up around the same time. The new chapter begins airing in June, but the show is still looking for secondary characters. Recently, an actress and an actor are sought to be Eric’s mother and father. From the casting call, it’s known that Eric is the son of a Swedish Viking king. The parents will be seen in a flashback in episode 5.
True Blood has found its next bat-bleep-crazy villainess.
After an exhaustive and months-long search, sources confirm that actress Brit Morgan — best known from ABC Family’s short-lived drama The Middleman — has scored the pivotal role of Debbie Pelt, the psycho ex girlfriend of werewolf Alcide (Joe Manganiello).
Last month, exec producer Alan Ball told me that the juicy part — already a major component of the show’s upcoming third season — was being beefed up. “She’s going to be in more episodes,” he said, “so maybe that will have an impact on [what actress] we can get for her, which is a big question right now.”
With that question now answered, all of Season 3’s major roles have been cast.
From being the Painted Lady on “Heroes“, Dawn Olivieri will make a transition to become a werewolf on “True Blood“. The actress has been cast in the vampire series as Janice Herveaux, one of the new characters added into the third season.
From the last name, Janice is identified as the sister of Alcide, the werewolf who has a mutual interest in Sookie. Janice’s role in the series is to be protective toward her younger brother. She is described as “a tough-as-nails biker chick” who is “into horoscopes and psychics”. Her first appearance will be in episode 4 titled “9 Crimes”.
According to TV Guide, Olivieri originally auditioned as Debbie Pelt. The producers are yet to announce which actress would tackle the role who has equally huge influence in Alcide. Meanwhile, Joe Manganiello plays Alcide whose first appearance is expected in the third episode.

Through a series of True Blood spoilers, we know that werewolves will be present on season three, Jason will have plenty of sex and more.
Now, in a pair of interviews with E! News, series stars Ryan Kwanten, Rutina Wesley and Nelsan Ellis are shedding some light on what their characters will be up to when the show returns in June.
“Jason finally falls in what he thinks is love. It’s a pretty rare, unknown concept for him,” said Kwanten, adding, on a different note:
‘The fact that my character is dealing with the fact that he really has killed someone now is pretty crazy, and there’s a whole host of new characters. There’s the addition of werewolves coming in. We’re using real wolves. It’s crazy. I’ve yet to work with them. I’ll work with them later on in the season, but I’m looking forward to it.”
As for Wesley’s Tara?
“She’s going to have to grieve a lot to get over [Eggs]. And then it’s going to be crazy madness,” said the actress. Finally, Ellis chimed in about another character on the show: “Sam moves away from Sookie and Bon Temps, and he clings to the family that he’s now starting to get to know. He finds his mother, father and brother.”
Among a lot of other True Blood casting news this winter, it’s been announced that J. Smith-Cameron has landed the former role as Mrs. Merlot.
Even the production start of “True Blood” gets an exclusively-made teaser. Without revealing any plot or characters, HBO announces that the third season is officially on track in production stage. The footage uses mostly the making of its synthetic blood drink, TruBlood.
The new chapter in Sookie and vampire Bill saga will unfold in June 2010. Creator Alan Ball has added a lot of new characters and revamped the storyline in a way that the villain is no longer one but three. “We have a triumvirate of evil this season,” he told EW. “I’m talking about Franklin Mott, Russell Edgington, and Debbie Pelt. They are all bad to the bone. They’re not just crazy, they’re evil.”
The show has found actors for Russell aka King of Mississippi and Franklin in Denis O’Hare and James Frain respectively but is yet to discover an actress for Debbie. “We actually beefed up Debbie. She’s going to be in more episodes, so maybe that will have an impact on [what actress] we can get for her, which is a big question right now,” he revealed the reason of late casting.
In addition to the whole villain dynamic, the main characters are also facing personal demons. “He will continue to explore the whole Sookie thing and what that’s all about,” Alexander Skarsgard said about his character Eric. “He’s trying to figure out what’s different about her. He’s intrigued by that. And in addition to that, there’s something that happened a thousand years ago that he’s still carrying in his heart. All I’ll say is he’s trying to avenge someone.”
The third season premiere of True Blood is still months away. HBO has tentatively scheduled it for June.

Charlaine Harris’ “Southern Vampire” books concern the goings-on in the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana, resident telepath waitress Sookie Stackhouse and a whole lot of supernatural beings. These creatures include vampires, who have recently revealed themselves to humans worldwide after the development of the synthetic blood substance Tru Blood. Harris’ books appeal to a wide range of readers. One of these was Alan Ball, an Oscar winner for his original screenplay for American Beauty and creator of HBO’s highly-acclaimed series Six Feet Under, which ran for five seasons.
Ball hadn’t been known previously for fantasy / horror, but after he picked up the first book in Harris’ series, Dead Until Dark, he says he became enthralled. “I got into Sookie and the world and the characters, and I looked forward to going to bed every night, because I knew I was going to read the book before I went to sleep, and I would tell myself, ‘Okay, I’m just going to read two chapters,’ and I would read seven. I just felt, ‘This is kind of a phenomenon.’ I read first four books, [which] at that time [was what] had been published, and I wanted more. So I called [Harris]. At that time, she had given the rights to a film producer, but those rights were set to run out in a couple of months. They ran out and I convinced her to let me take a stab at it.”
